Chin Implants Atlanta

Implant surgery for the face, including chin implants in Atlanta, must be approached differently from other areas of the body. The goal of chin implants is not always that bigger is better. Our faces are always on display and are rarely shrouded by clothing. Major changes are created by balancing facial proportions. Implants are used to augment the chin, lips, cheeks and melolabial grooves (the deep lines adjacent to the nose and mouth).

Chin implants are placed through an incision along the gum line or through a small incision under the chin in the natural crease that occurs in this location. The extra-oral approach is typically preferred because it limits the risk of implant infection and allows concomitant liposuction of the neck, which can further enhance the overall result. The implant is anatomic in shape and provides projection. The biggest change is seen when viewing the person from the side.

Cheek Implants Atlanta

Having cheek implants in Atlanta can change the height and shape of the cheekbones. They can be done to accentuate a high cheekbone, add to the appearance following a face-lift or fill central the face from wasting caused by chronic disease. The cheek implants can be inserted through an incision in the upper gums or through a lower eyelid incision. Silastic implants are typically chosen

Lip augmentation is performed to enhance the resting and animated face. Because the lips are involved in everyday contact whether with another individual or a drinking glass, a natural feel to the lips is extremely important. Alloderm is a human derived implant that has gone through extensive preparation to purify the material. The implant is soft and pliable. Using a cut alloderm sheet and four incisions in the corners of the mouth, the lips can be increased symmetrically. This tends to provide both an increase in the volume of the lips as well as the amount of red lip which is seen. Typically, more augmentation is placed in the upper lip when compared to the lower lip. Unfortunately, the trade-off for the natural augmentation and feel of Alloderm is that implant will be incorporated and partially absorb by the body.

Melolabial groove augmentation in contrast to lip augmentation can be performed with a permanent implant as very infrequently do other individuals touch this area of our face. I prefer Gore-Tex multistrand implants in this location. The multistrand nature of the implant allows it to lie flat under the skin and move smoothly with facial animation. The implants are inserted through four small incisions - two incisions are hidden in the grooves of the nostrils and the other incisions are in the creases themselves. The implant stretches the crease reducing its appearance. Although these implants are usually done in younger individuals who wish to avoid the added healing time of face lift surgery, they can be done with a face-lift to further reduce the depth of the melolabial folds.
